This wonderfully moody locket is made of silver with an intricate "not-quite-a-fluer-du-lis” pattern of niello- an unusual and highly sought after inlay material popular around the turn of the last century. The contrast between the bright silver and the almost black niello is powerfully graphic and the delicacy of the design makes for a highly sophisticated look. Both sides of the locket are covered in this lovely pattern, and the bail is worked with niello as well. Measures a bit over 2” from the top of the bail, and comes with (optional) instant ancestors- some decidedly plucky looking young women from ca. 1918. Chain not included.
